Under hot sun, we used to sweat a lot and the perspiration will cause offensive smell and sticky sensation on the outer layer of the skin.

Sometimes we asked patient, how many time do you take the shower in one day? Twice per day or more than that. Is this habit considered to be too exaggerated?

When one is taking shower, some of them finish showering within five to six minutes. Some others might take more than an hour. Hence, we raise exquisite concerns for showering from the perspective of healthy habit.

Things to pay attention during showering:

1 Remember to wipe off the water after showering so that our body is dried thoroughly.

Some of them simply wipe off the water but not thoroughly. Or some of them switch on the air-conditioned in advance before we step out from bathroom so that to get a cooler atmosphere, which is more comfortable. They let their bodies dried naturally via the wind in the air-conditioned room. From the perspective of TCM, we have concerns for ensuring warming of the body, hence if we simply wipe off the water but not thoroughly, the moisture on the outer layer of the skin could easily immersed into the body, causing “dampness” trapped. As a consequence, we will catch flues easily.

2 Rubbing acupuncture points during showering.

Rubbing acupuncture points for about 2-5 minutes during showering to aid in removing “dampness”.

Armpit – the point of HT 1 Jiquan
Belongs to heart meridian. The location of this point is in the middle of the armpit, where arteries flow through. Besides removing “dampness”, it does help dispersing the heat trapped in the heart meridian.

The curve point at the elbow – the point of LU 5 Chize
Belongs to lung meridian. At the horizontal line at the elbow, biceps tendon radial side where we bend the elbow is the location of this acupuncture point. This point helps removing “dampness” besides strengthening the lung system.

Popliteal hollow – the point of BL 40 Weizhong
Belongs to bladder meridian. The location of this point is at the middle of popliteal hollow. The main function of this acupuncture point is to treat the waist or lower back pain besides removing “dampness” from the waist.

There are some times not recommended to take shower? When?

1 After exercise or when we are having heavy sweat.

Physical exercises causes heavy sweat, hence it is highly recommended not to take shower at this timing. It is preferably we wait until the heart beat resume as calm beat then only we take the shower. The reason is to avoid unexpected issues happen such as insufficient heart beat circulation, cerebrovascular insufficiency, or the worst coma issue.

2 After a full meal.

When we take shower, the flow of blood circulation seem to be moving at the outer layer of the skin and veins expanded. When the volume of blood moving forward at the outer layer of skin, the volume of blood flowing into the stomach reduced relatively. Hence, it affects the functionality of the stomach and affects the digestion system, brings to a stage of low blood pressure. Sometime, it leads to exhaustion or even fainted.

3 When we are having a fever.

When we are having a fever, our bodies are fighting with bacteria or virus, and then the symptoms of chilling appear. If we take shower at this time, the water immerses into body and trapped, hence our fever get worse and sometimes it keeps recurring.

4 When we have low blood pressure or feel starving.

When we take shower, the flow of blood circulation seem to be moving at the outer layer of skin and veins expanded. Due to the volume of blood moving forward at the outer layer of skin, the volume of blood flowing into the other organs reduced relatively. As a result, it leads to exhaustion or even fainted.

5 After drunk.

After drunk, the alcohol suppresses the release of glycogen. If we take shower after drunk, the process of consuming glucose could be increased. If the glycogen is not replenished in time, it leads to the occurrence of some of these symptoms such as dizziness, dazzled eyes, fatigue, and when it becomes worse, it leads to low blood pressure cum coma.
