Whenever we go out for gathering, we usually go to a mamak stall to chit chat and having a cup of Indian milk tea. It feels incomplete without it.

But drinking too much tea is good for our health?

First, the fermentation time of tea leaves and different type of tea leaves leads to different colours and creating six types of different tea which is black tea, green tea, oolong tea, yellow tea, dark tea, and white tea.Each type of it has different characteristic, with variations in their cold or hot nature.

Generally, the tea leaves prepared for Indian milk tea is not fully roasted and is classified as raw tea, which is cold nature. Hence, we often say that Indian milk tea is cooling and should be consumed in moderation.


But why? What are the consequences of consuming too much cooling teh tarik?

Firstly, regularly consuming cold foods can weaken our digestive capabilities because our stomach needs a warm environment to work well in view of Chinese medicine and properly digest food. Long-term consumption of cold foods can make our bodies lean toward a cold constitution, hindering digestion. This is often reflected in reduced appetite and post-meal bloating.

When we cannot digest food properly, we may lead to absorb not enough energy and leading to weakness.

Moreover, when our bodies tend to have a cold constitution, our ligaments and tendons will contract excessively, as cold can causes contraction in the view of Chinese medicine and can result in muscle strain and pain. Additionally, a cold constitution can disrupt our body’s fluid metabolism, leading the issues like lower limb swelling.

In conclusion, moderate consumption of Indian milk tea is acceptable, with a general recommendation of once every one to two weeks. If possible, adding some ginger slices to the milk tea can help reduce its cooling nature, make it better for health.
