Tongue diagnosis in TCM included the analysis of the veins underneath the tongue.
ometime we will observe purplish red colour, for example at one side of the veins, or both sides, or coagulated at certain points, these are termed as blood clots. Blood clots are formed during the blood coagulation process and remain as pathology residues.
For instance, damages of veins or slow process of blood circulation lead to the formation of blood clot.
The existence of blood clots causing a slow and unsmooth flow of blood circulation. Actually blood clots might be the signal of invisible murderer. It causes serious sickness such as heart attack (myocardial infarction), Cerebral infarction, Cancerous tumour etc.
For comparison, we may imagine the blood flow as water flow in pipe with sediments, sand and gravel stones. If the pipe is stuck with these deposits, water flow is blocked. Similarly, if blood clots are sticking the walls in the veins and causing the slow blood flow, it will affect the carrier of oxygen in the blood vessels and the cells will encounter shortage of oxygen and experience hypoxia symptom.
For example: Cerebral infarction. If the condition of hypoxia symptom happened at the brain, brain cells begin to die in minutes and it affects the electrical signal of nerves transmission hence affecting the motion of the upper and lower limbs. If case getting worse, the patient find hard to speak, and all these symptoms often affect one side and cause paralysis or stroke.
We may want to understand, what are the root causes that produce the blood clots in blood vessels?
- Emotional attitude.
In the bible of TCM mentioned all kind of emotional feeling will affect the energy (“Qi”) flow and hence affect the blood flow. Gradually, the blood coagulation process happened and blood clots are formed.
- Shortage of energy (“Qi”).
Energy in the body or so called “stamina” is acting as a force to enable a smooth flow of the blood circulation. If the force is weak, the blood circulation is running slow hence the blood clots are formed gradually.
- Cold.
When we are exposed to cold and chill environment or if we take cooling drinks or food, our blood vessels shrink and slowing down the blood circulation hence the blood clots are formed gradually.
- Improper diet.
We ought to maintain a balance and healthy diet. Improper diet such as overtake fatty food or fried food causes fatty residue stored inside the veins and blocking the blood flow. As a result, the slow blood circulation will form the blood clots gradually.
For healthy peoples, our bodies consist two systems, the blood coagulation system and anticoagulation system. A balance order of these systems ensures a smooth blood circulation and blood clot will decompose by nature. As human beings are aging or seldom exercise, the process of blood clot decomposition is slowed down. Hence, the blood clots stayed in blood vessels and transmitting in the body. If the blood clots stuck at the brain vessels, it triggers the occurrence of Acute Cerebral infarction. If the blood clots stuck at the intestine vessels, it triggers the damage of intestines. If the blood clots stuck at the kidney vessels, it triggers the damage of kidney; the worst become an uraemia disease.
Do the blood clots trigger signals to us?
Blood clotting could be happened at any age and any time. 90% of the blood coagulation has no obvious triggering factor for sensation signals. If we do checking at Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular department of the hospital, all the imaging scanning might show normal marker results despite the existence of blood clots in the vessels.
What are the preventions for the formation of blood clotting?
1. Ankle exercise
Stretch our knee straight. Pull up the feet for 10 seconds. Pull down the feet for 10 seconds. The angle of pulling up and down could be done to the fullest. We exercise at both sides ankles. We could repeat the pulling up and down for many times and unlimited as long as we are comfortable and have no pain.
2. Remember the phrase “Let’s move around”.
According to WHO (World Health Organization), if we sit or stand stagnant for 4 hours continuously, there is a risk to have blood clotting. Hence, “let’s move around”! For instance, we sit all day round in front of computer, say if more than 90 minutes, the blood flow slower down. Highly recommend all to move around and do exercise after an hour working in front of computer. You may take a brisk walk, stretching shoulder, kicking movement with the calf, regular movement exercise at ankle and knee.
3. Eat natural food which helps to break off the blood clot.
~ Fermented black soybean
In China, the citizens like to take fermented black soybean. Vitamin E and B present in black soybeans can fight against oxidation and prevent blood clotting. Old folks are highly recommended to take the fermented black soybean at about 50 grams per day. In our daily meal, we can have fried water spinach with black soybean, stewed fried ribs with black soybean, steamed fish with black soybean and fried diced chicken with black soybean.
~ Black fungus
Black fungus help tonifying the kidney and replenishing the energy (“Qi”) as well as promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. Hence, we cooked black fungus to improve the blood circulation and to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Steps for inhibition: We are not allowed to eat the black fungus right after soaking in water. Only cooked one is edible.
~ Walnut
We understand that walnut help tonifying the kidney as well as the brain. Besides, walnut also prevent blood clotting, it helps to discard the residue of blood clots. In additional, walnut do helps improve bowel movement.
For people whose body intend to be heaty, or people who has phlegm, it is highly recommend controlling the intake of walnut. If you drink tea, do not take walnut as well.
~ Tomato
Tomato is also a kind of food helping to prevent blood clotting. Specifically, the pectin fibres in tomatoes are resistant to digestion in the large intestine and help form healthy stool. Hence, tomatoes are able to reduce blood cholesterol and triglycerides. Bioflavonoids, which are concentrated in the tomato skin, helps in anti-coagulation of blood platelet cells, hence improve the smooth blood circulation in blood vessels and prevent the occurrence of atherosclerosis.
