Q:Why TCM recommend less cold food or drink?

A:
For TCM, after we provide oral prescription and treatment, we will advise all to take less cold food or drink.

The main reason for it due to most illness derived from cooling.

TCM see a healthy man as having a normal “Yang” vital energy. When anyone taken cooling food or drink, it weakening the “Yang” vital energy in the digestive system. Hence, weakening the functionality of digestive system, for instance, weakening the process of nutritients absorption, as a result slowing down the energy flow and blood circulation. Current related illness for example: asthma, stomachache, menstrual pain, infertility, swollen cyst, skin problem etc.

Besides, we practice improper meal habits gradually. The weather for Malaysia is hot, when we step into most of the restaurants, they provide iced water. Drinking iced water is a norm for most of us. The youngster even like iced cincau with sugar, ice-cream. Working staffs sometime drink iced beers. Most of us thought that iced water will reduced thirsty and heat. We hardly know that this habit reduce our “Yang” vital energy.

Some of our friends who wish to reduce weight, they choose not to intake grain or rice, instead their essential meal come from fruit and vegetable. We categorize fruit and salad as cooling type of food, long term of having these food will cause weaker “Yang” vital energy, we will see some symthomps such as cooling feet and palms, or cooling limbs, cold stomach, bloated stomach, body tend to feel cold easily compare to last time, menstrual pain, extended menstruation period.
