Firstly, let us explore the ingredients of the supplements from the perspective of nutrition.
Supplements included Vitamins A,B,C,D,E,K, the minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, acid folic and etc. Most of the sources of vitamins and minerals are from the vegetables and fruits.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a healthy nutrition is related to improve the health of infants, kids and pregnancy women; strengthen immunity system; reduce the risk for non-contagious diseases (diabetic and cardiovascular diseases) as well as human longevity. Todays, the world is facing double burden for malfunction and overweight. With regards to malfunction, it has included emaciation and stunting, either absorption of insufficient of vitamins and minerals.
Nowadays, we live in a fast pace environment, we might be worrying that the body could not absorb equivalent nutrition to support the daily energy consumptions; hence we cultivate a habit to take oral supplement. In fact, for a healthy human being, we need not take oral supplement. In a long duration if we consumed excessive supplements, they might turned into extra “residue”. If residues have not been expelled out from the body, it will remain inside the body eventually leading to a deteriorating stage of the body.
From the perspective of TCM, promoting the functionality of stomach is the main cause of maintain a healthy body. Hence, when we obtain nutrition from the food consumption, it is the best method to enhance the digestive system.
From the moments we chew the food, our brain has started to send signals to the salivary glands to release the saliva to initiate the digestive processes. The foods are crushed into pieces and pass through the digestive system via esophagus to stomach. At the stomach, the gastric fluids kick starting the job and further digesting the food into smaller pieces as well as killing the germs. Then, the food will be transported via the intestines with a combination of fluids release from the pancreas, gallbladder and small intestines.
Now, we come back to the essential question, after taken oral supplement, do we still eat fresh vegetables and fruits?
Instead of taking the oral supplement, why not we consume the raw vegetables and fruits from the nature? The fresh plants has obtained the energy from the sun and involved in the photosynthesis process, it will definitely promote the energy level in the body besides supplying adequate vitamins and minerals in the body. Eventually, we have double benefits.
Besides, we may put oneself in someone else’s shoes, say if we enhance the digestive system by cultivating a regular eating habit, intaking an adequate amount of food, neither too excessive nor too less. Gradually, we definitely gain a balancing diet and sufficient amount of vitamins. Then we need not take oral supplement to maintain the vitamins and mineral.
